We're Easy to Work With

(Typical Engagement Process and other Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Describe the engagement process when you deliver consulting services to clients.

A:  We always try to understand the needs of our customers and tailor a solution that is “just enough” and “just in time.” We work closely with decision  to gain agreement on the perceived symptoms and underlying root causes. (We always attempt to treat root causes rather than symptoms.) Sometimes a client will approach us with a predefined solution. Often this solution correctly addresses the root cause, but occasionally it only relieves the symptoms and not the source. We believe in being direct and constructive in design of a solution.

Through dialogue, we collaboratively agree on a “roadmap” to a solution. After gaining a verbal agreement, we write and submit a proposal. There should be no surprises to the client.  We make it easy to get to started.

Q: How would you summarize your philosophy?

Trust is the "grease of a relationship."  We will work hard to earn and sustain your trust.

Q: How do you price your services?

Our first choice is to provide a lump sum price for a fixed scope of work. Otherwise, we negotiate a reasonable daily or hourly fee.

We will guarantee your satisfaction with our work. If there is a problem, we will make it right.

Q: Do you provide training and education?

Yes.  You can follow this link to learn more about specific training offerings.

Often, clients want the knowledge transfer tailored to the needs of each individual learner and/or to tailored to the drivers of success in their business unit. In this case, we talk directly to the learner, and review some of the artifacts that they’ve generated in their work process. We then reach agreement with the individual (and other stakeholders) on the best way to transfer knowledge to that individual.

We have a questionnaire titled “Learner Needs Assessment” that works well for getting the sponsor (a senior person who has requested training) to clarify the outcomes they want to achieve for their business.

We often find ourselves evaluating “artifacts” of the project management process. These artifacts include requirements documents, project plans, methodologies, and the like. From this evaluation, we are able to quickly discern the relative maturity of the individual, team, or organization. From there, we can make recommendations about the needed knowledge transfer and how to go about providing it.

Q: Does your organization have any third-party relationships/alliances?

We occasionally invite other experts to join us on engagements, only if it is in the best interests of the client. We are “tools neutral” and do not promote/resell a specific brand of software.

Q: What about the rolling wave approach?

A: See this link.
